Case Study – Supporting Beauty Labs with their hire for an Influencer Outreach Manager

Beauty Labs is pioneering AI and Deep Learning to disrupt the Beauty Industry.

Consumer expectations are rapidly changing and they are looking for brands and products that understand ‘who’ they are and ‘what’ they stand for in a personalised and interactive way.

In basic terms, Beauty Labs enhanced reality experiences allow customers to ‘try before they buy’ with new cosmetic products, from the comfort of their own room using a digital platform.

Their computer vision and IoT technologies can not only be customised to power experiences for Beauty, but also other industries like Real Estate, Advertising, CPG, Retail, and more.

Requirement

Beauty Labs were an existing client at Rosslyn David and one we were actively working with already on other roles. This was a new area of marketing for us and them.

This Influencer Outreach Manager role was a brand-new requirement for Beauty Labs, and critical in their overall marketing team structure. Specifically, they were seeking someone with in-depth knowledge of the influencer channel, from a consumer perspective.

They had to have worked in cosmetics or retail and managed influencer campaigns at an international level. James worked closely with their CCO to build a thorough and intimate understanding of the role profile, how it fit in to the wider team, and what success looked like.

This would allow him to run an effective market mapping exercise and also to brief and interview prospective candidates on the role.

Challenge

Beauty Labs had not recruited for this role within their UK business before and so it was a new requirement. This meant the brief was not fully defined and refined.

To this point they had recruited a ‘Head of’ over in the US but this person hadn’t yet joined the business. The successful candidate would also needed to be based in either Cambridge or London, to have access to the offices.

Solution

James ran a thorough project mapping the candidate market specific to need, to target candidates that were already embedded in the cosmetics or retail industry.

First, a geographical profile of where the candidates might be based, crossed with the relevant industry sectors. Then filtering these results by job title and relevant keywords based on skill sets.

From here he researched personnel at the appropriate companies to uncover those not just with influencer experience, but with a wider knowledge of social media and marketing, at the right level for the salary budget.

He then ran a targeted Headhunt/outreach campaign. This would include the C.80% of prospective candidates who are not ‘active’ jobseekers.

James held prequalification conversations/interviews with 14 prospective candidates before introducing a final shortlist of 6 candidates to the client.

From this shortlist, Beauty Labs progressed 6 candidates to interview, followed up with a subsequent offer and placement.
