Case Study – Supporting ACCO Brands with their hire for a Product Manager

ACCO Brands is one of the world's largest designers, marketers and manufacturers of branded academic, consumer and business products.  With annual revenues of nearly $2.0 billion, they design, market, and sell their products in more than 100 countries around the world.  This particular requirement was with their heritage arts materials brand Derwent.

Working with the HR Manager and Marketing Director, Rosslyn David were able to provide a strong shortlist of final candidates in a succinct hiring process.

Requirement

Depending on the industry and field you work within, Product Manager can have varying meanings.  For this role requirement, ACCO needed someone with experience in tangible consumables for the B2C market with a mid-term buyer cycle.

Ideally a lifestyle purchase that was a want, not a need, that was non-technical/electronic.   Experience in a high volume of SKUs and working with partners in the Far East, covering ‘cradle to grave’ product lifecycle.

Challenge

ACCO were already in the middle of their recruitment campaign for the role at the point of engaging with Rosslyn David.

To this point they had run their own advertorial campaigns and were working with a partner who supported them across multiple business functions.

Having shortlisted candidates and held a round of interviews they had so far been unsuccessful in finding a candidate with the level of experience required.

Specifically, candidates with the previously mentioned depth of niche industry knowledge who would understand the nuances of working with high volume of SKUs and working with partners in the Far East, covering ‘cradle to grave’ product lifecycle.

Solution

James ran a thorough project mapping the market specific to need.  Using outbound search methods, James held prequalification conversations with 23 prospective candidates before introducing a final shortlist of 8 candidates to the client (Across 2 interview processes).

From this shortlist, ACCO progressed 6 to a first stage interview, of which 4 were progressed to second (final) interview, which then resulted in the placement of our introduced candidate.

Key metrics for the recruitment requirements
